Illinois hotel job losses could double without more aid, industry warns

In the Chicago area, the outlook for hotels is particularly grim, according to Jacobson. Downtown hotels are having a harder time filling rooms compared with other urban markets. The week of Sept. 13, the overall occupancy rate for Chicago hotels was around 35.4%, down almost 60% from a year before, according to STR, which tracks the hotel industry. Other cities, like San Francisco, Dallas and Seattle, had occupancy rates around 40%.
